The Day of Pentecost

What is the Day of Pentecost?
The first time we read about the day of Pentecost, is in the Old Testament.  The children of Israel held a great feast to commemorate the giving of the Law from Mt. Sinai. The law they received was to help the children understand God's love and his laws. When his apostles were celebrating the day of Pentecost after the Saviors resurrection, they were given the gift of the Holy Ghost. Since Christ knew he would not always be able to be with the apostles, he sent the Holy Ghost to watch over, protect, and guide his faithful servants. As the receiving of Gods laws was an act of great love, so is the receiving of the Holy Ghost upon us.

By being filled with the Holy Ghost I don't see how you could not want to shout on the roof tops the message of the gospel? Some of the teachings from Peter on that day were about the power of the Holy Ghost, the everlasting gospel and the need to repent. Because the spirit was so strong with them they were able to baptize around 3,000+ people that day and bring them into the fold.

From the account given in Act 2, one of the more powerful messages we can receive from it is standing as a witness of God. Peter fulfilled this greatly when the men from the town came to make fun of them because they were talking in tongues and preaching the word of God. He stood up for his beliefs and made sure to defend the word of God.

I think at first the people were looking for some easy fun when they started to tease the apostles, however after Peter rebuked them they changed their attitudes. The example of the men being converted to church just goes to show how powerful the Holy Ghost is and how much we truly do need him in our life.
